　はたけ に、カブ が できました。
　There was a turnip grown in the field.

　いままで みた こと も ない ような、とっても おおきな おおきな カブ です。
　It was the biggest turnip that nobody had ever seen.

「おお、これ は すごい。さっそく ぬいて みようか」
“Wow! It’s huge! Let’s pull it out.”

　おじいさん は カブ を ひっぱりました が、カブ は ぬけません。
　An old man pulled the turnip but it didn’t come out.

　おばあさん が、やってきました。
　Then an old woman came to him.

「あら、おおきな カブ ですね。どれ、わたし も てつだいますよ」
“Oh dear, what a big turnip. I’ll give you a hand.”

　おばあさん は おじいさん の こし に て を かける と、おじいさん と ちから を あわせて カブ を ぬこう と しました が、やっぱり カブ は ぬけません。
　The old woman put her arms around the old man’s waist and tried to pull out the turnip, but it didn’t come out.

　つぎ に、まご が やってきました。
　Then their grandson came to them.

「おじいさん。ぼく も てつだうよ」
“I’ll help you too, grandpa.”

　おじいさん と おばあさん と まご は、ちから を あわせて カブ を ぬこう と しました が、やっぱり カブ は ぬけません。
　The old man, old woman, and their grandson pulled together, but the turnip still didn’t come out.

　つぎ に、イヌ が やってきました。
　Then a dog came to them.

「おじいさん。わたし も てつだいます。ワン」
“Let me help you, bowwow.”

　おじいさん と おばあさん と まご と イヌ は、ちから を あわせて カブ を ぬこうと しました が、やっぱり カブ は ぬけません。
　The old man, old woman, their grandson, and the dog pulled together, but the turnip still didn’t come out.

　つぎ に、ネコ が やってきました。
　Then a cat came to them.

　The old man, old woman, their grandson, the dog, the cat, and the mouse pulled together, but the turnip still didn’t come out.

「うーん　よいしょ」
“Oof. Here we go.”

「うーん　よいしょ」
“Oof. Here we go.”

「うーん　よいしょ」
“Oof. Here we go.”

「うーん　ワン」
“Oof. Bowwow.”

「うーん　ニャー」
“Oof. Meow.”

「うーん　チュー」
“Oof. squeak.”

　みんな で、ちからいっぱい ひっぱり ました。
　All of them pulled together with all their strength.

　すると、
　Then…

「スッポーーーン！！」
　“Pop!!”

　とうとう カブ は、ぬけました。
　At last the turnip came out.

　それ は、とっても とっても おおきな カブ でした。
　It was such a giant turnip.

oof＝「そーれっ」「うんとこさ」の意味。

Here we go.=複数の人たちが力を合わせて物を動かすときに使われます。

pop=「ポン」「パン」と何かが抜ける時の音。
