　ひとびと が ふね に のって、うみ に でました。
　Some people went on a voyage.

　ずっと おき へ でた とき、はげしい あらし が おこって、ふね は いまにも しずみそう に なりました。
　When the ship paddled out far, suddenly the big storm arose.  And it was about to sink.

　ふね に のっていた きゃくたち は、
　The passengers on the board started praying loudly.

「かみさま、おたすけ ください。ふね を しずめないで ください。
“Lord, please have mercy on us.  Please do not sink the ship.

　たすけて くださったら、いくらでも かんしゃ の おそなえ を します」
　If you help us, we will make offerings as much as we can.”

と、おおごえ で いのりました。

　ところ が あらし が しずまる と、みんな は ごちそう を たべたり、おどったり、とびはねたり しました。
　But, once the storm was gone, everyone started banqueting, dancing and jumping around.

　もう、あんしん だと おもった の です。
　They thought it was all over and safe.

　しかし せんちょう は かんがえぶかい ひと でしたから、うかれている おきゃくたち に いいました。

「みなさん、たのしむの は けっこう です。

　ただし、いつまた あらし が くるかも しれない こと を おわすれなく」

　うまく いった から と いって、あんしん しては いけません。
　One should never rest easy yet.

　さいなん は、また くる かも しれませんよ。
　Disasters occur when you forget about them.
