　いちわ の ワシ が いわ の うえ に とまって、ウサギ を ねらっていました。
　An eagle was sitting on a rock aiming a hare.

　その ワシ めがけて、にんげん が ヒュッ と や を はなちました。
　An arrow which was shot by a man whizzed to that eagle.

　や は ワシ に めいちゅう して、てつ の やじり が ぐさり と ワシ の からだ に ささりました。
　The arrow hit the eagle and the iron tip of the arrow got stuck deep in the eagle.

　や の はね は、ちょうど ワシ の め の まえ に ピン と つきたって いました。
　The shaft of the arrow stood in front of the eagle’s face.

　それは、ワシ の はね で できた や の はね でした。
　He noticed that the shaft was furnished with his feather.

　ワシ は、いいました。
　He said,

「しぬだけ でも かなしい のに、なんと じぶん の はね の せい で しぬ こと に なるとは、
“Dying is a sad matter, but I should perish by an arrow with my own feather.

　これほど なさけない はなし は ない」
　This is more than pathetic.



　かつて じぶん の もの で あった もの に たおされる のは、ほか の もの に たおされる より も つらい もの です。
　It is more pitiful to be knocked out the things which used to be one of your own.
